Le fromage - def. - cheese
La fromagerie - def. - a cheese shop. A.k.a. a glimpse of heaven, though perhaps a bit smellier than I envision eternal rest.
In Paris, fromageries abound. Lovely little shops devoted entirely to cheese.
That’s my daughter in the picture. A woman who knows her cheese, and speaks French fluently. This was indeed a heavenly moment for her, chatting with the proprietor about the various selections.
We ended up with these, and a fresh baguette. One hard. One soft. One blue. And a little bit of honey.
Enjoyed in a picnic in the Jardin du Carrousel. That’s the lawn between The Louvre and the Tuileries garden.
Every day. More cheese. More baguette. More walking. Came home three pounds lighter than I went. Who knew?
Narrowed down my favorite to this delectable blue known as St. Agur. Gratefully available in the states. If you are in or near North Falmouth (near where I live) you may purchase at the North Falmouth Cheese Shop.
How to make the perfect brunch sandwich for a morning train voyage?
Step 1 - one baguette
Step 2 - a generous slather of butter
Step 3 - some St. Agur blue
Step 4 - eat it - ooh la la!
Though Anna’s favorite French cheese moment was this photo. Loosely translated, it reads, “cheese sale - ring here.” Her comment, “you know whatever cheese is behind this door MUST be amazing!”
And it was. What in the states we might call a ‘mom and pop shop’ - a true ‘cottage industry’ - in the proprietors home - cheeses they made themselves.
Oh la la, indeed.
We went. We saw. We ate cheese. And more cheese. Never enough cheese. Yes, I’m being a little silly. But it really was delicious.
As always, thank you for reading. I think I hear my refrigerator calling.
With love to each of you,
Mimi
